Adorable New Board Books
I got this super fun book for my little one's birthday, and it is so cute! Steph Stilwell has created something special here. It’s part board book, part greeting card, and a total celebration all rolled into one. The illustrations are wonderfully bright, cheerful, and full of energy, exactly what I was looking for for my toddler’s special day. My daughter loved the colorful party hats, balloons, and cake on every page. What I love most as a mom are the sweet affirmations and positive text.
We are big fans of Peter Rabbit in our house, so I picked this up as a simple way to introduce the characters to my toddler. It’s a sweet, straightforward little lift-the-flap book (which my kids LOVE!) where Peter gets himself stuck while trying to sneak veggies from Mr. McGregor's garden. What I appreciate most is the subtle lesson about independence versus asking for help. Peter really wants to do everything entirely on his own, but when things don't go according to plan, he has to learn to accept help from the other friendly animals. It’s a nice message for the toddler stage.
You Are a Garter Snake! puts kids right in there with the snake, encouraging them to stretch, slither, and mimic the snake's movements, while learning all aout garter snakes. The illustrations are bright, friendly, and so cute, which is wonderful for showing kids that these backyard creatures aren't scary. It also adds some simple science facts in there, like how snakes smell with their tongues and cuddle up together to stay warm in the winter. My kids have read it over and over.
