Magic, Mystery & Nostalgia: Disney YA Novel Round-Up!

 Wings of Reverie

I was so excited to pick up Anna Bright’s Wings of Reverie, mostly because I spent years obsessed with the original Pixie Hollow stories and couldn't wait to read more. I really loved seeing Periwinkle as the main character, and I loved the plot, which starts with her having dreams about the destruction of the Pixie Dust Tree. Then she teams up with Weaver, who is  a charming sparrow man. I like how this book kept the nostalgia but added to it with a richer fantasy world. I think the fairy magic in thi s book makes this an absolute treat to read.

Rootbound: A Tangled Novel

Tangled is my favorite Disney movie, so you can imagine that I was really happy to see Margaret Owen’s Rootbound, especially since I've been dying to see what happened to Rapunzel and Eugene right after the movie ended :). So the story picks up about a month after Rapunzel leaves her tower. They go tothe island kingdom of Astera for a royal celebration, and then on a royal trip. Lots of adventures ensure from there, like secret societies, political drama, and even some revelations about Eugene’s past. Rapunzel has some concerns about her royal role since she no longer has her magical hair to fix everything for her.  I definitely consider this a must-read for any Tangled fan!

Shadow Over the Pumpkin Queen


Shadow of the Pumpkin Queen took me back to Halloween Town, and I'm loving it. Sally steps out of  Jack’s shadow to figure out who she really is, which is really nice to see.  She also has to figure out a mystery about something that is putting the whole town to sleep. I like how Sally relys on her own wit and needlework rather than just sitting around waiting to be saved. I appreciate that the novel has that Tim Burton dark whimsy millieu. If you ask me, this is easily one of the strongest, most charming Disney novels, and I can't recommend it enough to fellow Nightmare Before Christmas fans.
