Fun New Christmas Kids Books

The Christmas Sweater

I read The Christmas Sweater with my kids this week, and they loved it. The story starts on Christmas morning: Theo’s Yiayia knits a bright red sweater full of bells and glittery adornments for their pug, Ari, and even though Ari seems uninterested, Theo takes her on a snowy hike, hoping the sweater will warm her up.
My kids’ eyes lit up as we followed Ari and Theo through the winter woods. When the sweater unravels and they realize they’re lost, the adventure turns a little spooky in the best possible way, but with warmth, hope, and a touch of holiday magic. The illustrations are cozy and wintry, with so many details to point out together. By the end, when the sweater’s scattered bells and trimmings help guide them home, and then transform into a surprise for the whole town, it felt like the kind of Christmas story that stays with you and my kids want to read again and again.

Elmore and the Big Christmas Rescue

I read Elmore and the Big Christmas Rescue with my kids the other night, and we couldn’t stop giggling. The story opens with a twist: Santa catches a cold just days before Christmas, and in a surprising move he asks Elmore the Moose (yes, a moose!) to step in and handle all the Christmas planning. The chaos that follows is pure holiday fun: confused reindeer, grumpy elves, wild letters to Santa, and Elmore doing his absolute best to keep things afloat.

What I loved most is how the book turns a big, holiday-sized mess into a story of believing in yourself,  even when everything feels way too big. My kids were completely on board: they laughed when Elmore mis-managed the reindeer, they “helped” him by pointing out funny details in the illustrations, and they cheered when things finally worked out. It reminded me that sometimes “doing your best”, even if imperfect, can save the day. This one’s definitely going into our holiday rotation.

I read Mr. Willowby’s Head Over Heels Christmas with my kids this evening, and it immediately became one of our new holiday favorites. The story starts when poor Mr. Willowby’s Christmas tree delivery gets stuck in a snowdrift, and suddenly it looks like there might be no tree at all. Then along comes a kind woodland friend, Barnaby Bear, who rounds up his forest pals and decides to rescue Christmas in the most wildly fun way: by sledding a giant tree down a snowy mountain all the way to Mr. Willowby’s house. Chaos and fun follow, and by the end even my littles were shouting, “It’s a Christmas miracle!”

What I loved most was how the book captures pure holiday spirit, friendship, helping others, and the excitement of a Christmas rescue, all wrapped up in rhyming verses and beautiful illustrations. The animals’ adventure feels like a snow day dream, and the surprise ending (yes, there is a happy Christmas surprise!) had my kids beaming as we closed the book. I’ll definitely be reading this one every December. It feels warm, whimsical, and full of Christmas magic.
