As a mom, I’m always drawn to children’s books that share a meaningful lesson without feeling preachy, and I think that Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors does that beautifully. It is inspired by her childhood, and the story follows a little girl whose mother makes her a coat from random pieces of fabric. When other children tease her, she remembers the love that went into every stitch, creating a chance to talk with kids about kindness, gratitude, bullying, and what really gives something value.

The soft, pretty illustrations are so touching, and the special anniversary edition reallyfeels like a lovely keepsake to me. I especially appreciate how the story celebrates a mother’s creativity and shows that families can create something beautiful even during difficult financial times. I can really relate to that :) This would be a wonderful book for home, preschool, or an early elementary classroom, and it leaves children with the comforting reminder that being deeply loved is its own kind of richness.
